February 10, 2016 – “Professor Ruff Presented Historic Documentary”

Professor Willie Ruff presented an historic documentary that the Yale film archive has recently acquired. It was a forty-five minute film documentary of the 1972 Convocation of the founding of the Duke Ellington Fellows Program at Yale.  Even as the founding director of that enterprise, still active today, Professor Ruff only recently became aware of the existence of the documentary that honored Duke Ellington, Marian Anderson along with thirty eight other legends of African American Music.

He recently presented the work at Reed College in Portland, Oregon to the international conference of the Ellington Society that celebrated the centennial of Billy Strayhorn.
